Detecting a natural gas leak
Natural gas pipelines have a proven record of safety. However, it is important to know the signs of a natural gas leak indoors or outside. You may smell, hear, or see:
Smell – Rotten egg odor
Hear – Hissing, blowing or roaring sound
See – Dirt being blown, water bubbling or being blown into the air, fire coming from the ground, or dead or dying vegetation on or near a pipeline right of way in an otherwise green area.
If you suspect a gas leak
Get out immediately and make sure everyone else leaves as well. Do not make a spark or flame, activate or switch on/off any electrical equipment, including lights, fire alarms, intercom systems, appliances, etc., or raise/lower the windows.
